The Mackay region is expected to see over 2000 jobs created in just a matter of weeks according to Julianne Gilbert. The MP believes the state budget has provided us with recovery funding and even a whole new industry. She says Vines Creek bridge is one project that's finally been given the green light.
$57.2M is being injected into the Mackay Hospital and Health Service. The budget's including $1M to go towards redeveloping the Sarina Hospital.
While a couple of Whitsundays walking tracks is all we got out of the state budget according to MP Jason Costigan. The lack of funding isn't really a surprise to the Liberal MP stating if the state Government can complete an overtaking lane what hope have we got.
Police are investigating after hundreds of dollars was allegedly stolen from a woman's handbag in Mount Pleasant. They say the woman was at a shopping centre on Mackay Bucasia Road on Monday afternoon before she left her handbag behind and went home. A Good Samaritan called to say they found it but not before someone allegedly removed hundreds of dollars from her purse. Police are asking anyone with information on the offence to come forward.

LOCAL SPORT
Garrett Smith from the Mackay Cutters is on the Queensland Under 18 side. They'll be taking on New South Wales in a curtain-raiser to State of Origin Game 2.
The Queensland Maroons team will be marching through Mackay today for the Origin fan day. They'll be leaving from the corner of Gordon and Gregory Streets at 10:30 this morning to go to a luncheon at the MECC.
