LOCAL NEWS HEADLINES 

Mount Pleasant woman has been rushed to hospital after being struck by lightning. The 35 year old receiving an indirect strike through a metal object she was touching at around 10 past one yesterday afternoon. She has burns to her back but was taken to hospital in a stable condition. The Mackay council recording over 24 thousand lightning strikes on Tuesday night alone.

While the Bureau's predicting a 40 percent chance of showers and a possible storm in Mackay today. Over 130 millimetres of rain fell across parts of the region yesterday.

A 77 year old man is recovering after being injured in a cattle incident at Mount Jukes. It happened around 35 kays north-east of Mackay yesterday morning and he's been taken to hospital in a stable condition. = A boat ramp at Ilbilbie is closed to reduce the risk of a white spot disease outbreak. The Maroin Creek boat ramps on land owned by the Australian Prawn Farm. While there's no indication the disease has spread to the Mackay region the farm’s general manager says these precautions are vital.

The planned Mackay drop-in centre is seeing another setback. It failed in a bid to secure a space on River Street yesterday with council awarding a 10 year lease to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Health Service for an Indigenous Cultural Hub.

Ocean Film Fest is coming to the Whitsundays. Australian Marine Conservation Society is the charity partner. Campaigner Cherry Muddle says she's excited.

LOCAL SPORT

Mackay's Rugby League super stars Brittany Breayley and Renae Kunst are nursing a loss. The pair played in the Women's All Stars game at the weekend but the Indigenous team got it over the World team 14 points to 4.

5 of Mackay's most talented under 15 Hockey players have been selected for the Queensland rep side 2 boys and 3 girls getting the nod by selectors to be part of sides getting to the National championship in April Glenella's Noah Gauci says he came up against a lot of quality players during the trials
