Police are on the hunt for a women who took off after crashing an alleged stolen car from West Mackay. They say the women fled on foot after she crashed an orange Toyota Camry that's reportedly been stolen from a driveway in Ness Street on Wednesday night.

Around three hundred Elton John tickets go on sale at the MECC today. They'll be up for grabs from 12 noon and there's a four-ticket limit per person.

Kerbside recycling collections will begin in the Whitsunday later this year. Council's expecting to be able to divert about 5,000 tonnes of household waste from landfills each year once the service gets up to speed. Mayor Andrew Wilcox says it's been a long time coming.

A refurbished Airlie Beach Lagoon is on track to be delivered by the end of Augusts. It comes following construction works kicking off this week.

A river frontage cane farm at Balnagowan has sold for almost $3M. Its advertisement had to producing 11,400 tonnes of cane this crushing season.

The Fred Hollows foundation is thanking the people of Mackay. It's after we donated over $175,000 to the charity over the past 12 months. Nick Martin from the Foundation says they reached a record last year.

 LOCAL SPORT

Our Mackay Triathletes are making names for themselves after 50 locals competed in the Cairns Airport Adventure Festival at the weekend. They were from two clubs with Tomas Valena from the Mackay Triathlon club  taking out a thirst in the 70.3 distance in the 60 to 64 age group.

We can register now for the Mackay Run as 1 for Cyctic Fibrosis. It's on the 27th of August and we can bring our four legged friend along to the 1.5 kay dog walk of 5 kay Fun run.
