A man is facing charges after allegedly producing a chainsaw as a live band played at Kinchant Dam. Police allege it happened on Saturday night when the 53-year-old Kinchant Dam local told the victim, a band member, to stop playing. They had permission to play till midnight and it’s further alleged the 53 year old then produced a chainsaw and when the victim rushed to grab it the accused punched him in the face. A man’s being charged with going armed so as to cause fear and also common assault.

Mackay police are disappointed with the amount of drink drivers caught over the weekend. Police allege 16 drivers were under the influence, the highest reading was point-191 percent in Sarina.

LOCAL SPORT

The Bakers Creek Tigers clawed their way to victory at the weekend. They're over the moon with their 6 point win over the Mackay Magpies Aussie Rules boys. It was their first win of the season.

In rugby union, the Mackay City Team have taken out the first game of the season. The boys getting on top of a young Slade Point team to win round one of the Foundation cup 50 points to 12.

WEATHER

Sunny. Possible early morning fog. Light winds becoming easterly 15 to 20 km/h in the middle of the day then becoming light in the late afternoon.

Meteorologist Brett Harrison said rainfall is expected to increase from Wednesday between Cairns and Rockhampton. “We expect rain to become heavier with some heavy falls possible on Thursday and Friday in the same sort of area. “There’s a good chance many areas will receive more than 100mm through that three day period,” he said. Mr Harrison said the central coast region around Townsville and Mackay are likely to receive the heavier falls. From Friday the rain will track towards the state’s south east and is expected to bring between 20mm – 50mm to parts of the Sunshine Coast, Brisbane and the Gold Coast. “On Friday and Saturday we will start to see the rain weaken somewhat and move towards the south east with widespread showers and patchy rain,” Mr Harrison said.
