Our local leaders and pollies are slamming a group of 80 prominent Australians who are trying to stop the Adani mine from going ahead. They include two Australian cricket captains a former deputy premier and Missy Higgins who have signed a letter asking Mr Adani to abandon the Carmichael mine. Dawson MP George Christensen is calling them elitists and says they're trying to write off jobs for struggling unemployed Central and North Queenslanders.

Around 248 thousand international visitors came to the Whitsundays last year. That’s the highest number of international arrivals ever recorded in the Whitsundays for a 12-month period. Tourism Whitsundays CEO Craig Turner says they've been working hard to get numbers up.

Local police are reminding us to lock our doors and windows after a dozen burglaries were reported in just one week. Crims targeting cars sheds and homes in Mackay, Ooralea and Sarina.

We're urged to not be alarmed with we see plane flying low over cane fields. Canegrowers Mackay will be aerial baiting following a boom in rat numbers.

Kate Ceberano, Shannon Noll and the Chantoozies are just a few of the acts set to perform in the Whitsundays this November. They're three of 74 coming to our region for the three and a half day event. Organiser Gavin Butlin says it'll be bigger and better this year.

LOCAL SPORT

Mackay junior football player Mason Hammond will be taking on the best young players in the world in Italy soon. The 10 year old's been chosen to be part of the AC Milan Sydney Academy under 11's Squad that’s headed to Italy to play in the Sardinia Cup.

The Sarina Crocodiles are in desperate need of both junior and senior players. This seasons looking dire with only 15 people going to training across the three grades under 18's reserves and A-grade.
