A flood watch is current for Cairns to Gladstone, including the Don, Proserpine and Pioneer river catchments. The Bureau says widespread rainfall totals of one to two-hundred millimetres are forecast across the watch area from tonight through to Friday evening For catchments affected by cyclone "Debbie", flood levels during this event are expected to be significantly lower.

Beaconsfield's Carlisle Adventist Christian College will be adding years 11 and 12 next year. Local businesses coming to the schools aid over the last few years to get them out of massive debt. In 2011 it had 20 students today there's almost 150.

Queensland marine civil contractor, Pensar Building will be carrying out the 1-point-7 million dollar St Helens Beach boat ramp upgrade. Works include upgrades to the existing Carpet Snake Point boat ramp and access causeway.

The Mackay Council plans on making our region a national and international fishing hotspot. There are hopes we'll see an extra 30 thousand anglers flock to the region each year While an Earthcheck report is outlining a few areas where we can improve including upgrading facilities to meet demand.

Organisers of the 2017 Queensland Tourism awards are looking forward to seeing more entrants from Mackay throw their modesty aside and showcase their success. We have up until the first to June to nominate. QTIC Chief executive Daniel Gschwind says we have some great tourism operators in our region.

LOCAL SPORT

Mackay's Lauren Bella is impressing in both Netball and AFL. She's in Netball Queensland’s 2017and 18 Elite Development Program squad and is also part of the Queensland Women's Australian Football League She's one of only two regional athletes on the netball squad.

The AFL Mackay Senior Mens representative squad of 40 will be cut down in late June. They're staring training this Sunday. AFL Queensland's Paul Scullie says the squad boast players from all the clubs.

CURRENT WEATHER WARNINGS

A surface trough is likely to form in the Coral Sea near the southern tropical coast on Wednesday and then move slowly southwest onto the coast, providing a focus for increased shower and rain activity.

Widespread rainfall totals of 100 to 200 mm are forecast to occur across the watch area from Wednesday evening through to Friday evening, with isolated heavier totals up to 400 mm possible.

River level rises above the minor flood level are possible based on forecast rainfall. Heavy rainfall may also lead to localised flash flooding.

Catchments at risk within the Flood Watch area include the Mulgrave, Russell, Johnstone, Tully, Murray, Herbert, Bohle, Ross, Haughton, Don, Proserpine and Pioneer rivers, and parts of the Burdekin and Fitzroy rivers. For those catchments affected by ex-TC "Debbie" during March and April, flood levels during this event are expected to be significantly lower.
