Aboriginal artist Brian Dempsey Fisher will sit behind bars for at least four months after pleading guilty to indecently touching a young girl in the Mackay District Court. The 51 year old Cherbourg Aboriginal elder has been sentenced to 15 months jail time on three counts of indecent treatment of a child aged under 12. The offences occurring in April last year.

New data from the Department of Transport and police is revealing there are at least 125 speed cameras from Sarina to Airlie Beach. It's understood they're not always ready to catch offenders but are possible positions for police officers with radar.

Maritime Safety Queensland has a list of over 80 vessels in the Whitsundays to check damages on following cyclone Debbie. While almost half are expected to be submerged. Limitations on clearing local waterways have been lifted so works to remove debris can continue

The IKEA online shopping service for North Queensland is live from today. We'll be able to purchase goods online and pick them up from local collection points - with one in Mackay. IKEA Australia Multichannel Manager Michael Donath says he's expecting the service to take off.

PayStay is now up and running across all paid car parks in the Mackay City Centre. It allows motorists to pay for parking with their phone rather than at a parking meter. Councilor Fran Mann says it's all about upgrading the tech around town.

 THE Gargett Lions Rodeo is returning to the Pioneer Valley this Saturday. It has a star line-up of bull riders and entertainment and organisers are expecting it to attract the biggest crowd yet.

Mackay’s Sandy Brondello is the looking to take the Opals basketball girls to the Tokyo Olympics. She was announced as their coach yesterday.
