The Mackay and Whitsunday's councils are set to have $17,000,000 to inject into infrastructure projects before November. The funding’s expected to be announced today by Deputy Premier Jackie Trad as part of a $200,000,000 state-wide package. The Mackay council's receiving almost $11.5,000,000 while over $4,000,000 will go towards the Whitsundays council.

Mackay drivers aren't adhering to school zone speed limits. That’s according to local police who say hundreds of motorists including heavy vehicles have been caught speeding through zones. Police volunteers have been out in force with radar guns and billboards. Outside Mackay Christian Collage's junior campus at Ambrose Way from 8 am to 9 almost 70 drivers out of 138 broke the limit on one day.

Our Mackay Based RACQ Rescue chopper crew deserve more than just a pat on their back after recording a record year. They completed 573 tasks last year or 48 vital missions a month across the region. The over 970 flying hour’s represents a 10.5% increase in the total number of tasks.

Congratulations are in order for Brittany Breayley and Renae Kunst from Mackay. They pair's made it into the Harvey Norman Jillaroos for the Downer Auckland Nines side. Jillaroos coach Brad Donald says it’s a pretty experienced team.

Mackay's Ben Barba is back with Cronulla Sharks. Our former junior has reportedly resigned with them on a one year deal -- pending NRL approval. Barba was released from Sharks two months ago due to a second positive drug test in one year.
