Police are cracking down on domestic violence with at least 10 people from the Mackay region charged with strangulation offences. The 9 men and one woman were charged between April and October last year. They're facing seven years jail time if found guilty of non-lethal strangulations choking or suffocation in a domestic relationship.

Questions are being asked about why Mackay and the Whitsundays plays second fiddle to Townsville That’s according to Whitsundays MP Jason Costigan speaking after the Queensland government announced a $21M jobs creation program in the north He says he can’t explain why we keep missing out.

Mackay locals are being warned to stay hydrated this weekend. A Heatwave is sweeping across the state with temps predicted to reach 34 degrees tomorrow or 4 degrees higher than the January average. 

Some of our school bus routes have passed their use by date. That’s according to Mirani MP Jim Pearce who says road conditions have changed and the routes need to keep up. He's demanding a review of the routes.

While our Mackay and Mirani State schools are looking better than ever with some getting a makeover during the school holidays. Mackay MP Julieanne Gilbert says they’ve have shared in almost $2.5M worth of improvements.

Mackay Junior Motocross will be under the helm of a new president soon. It comes as Skye La Carta is stepping back from the role. During her time as president they've held a Queensland Title round and won the Arnie Hallet Most Improved Club of 2016. Peter Pearson will be the interim president.

In Aussie Rules the North Mackay Saints Football Club's having their annual sign on day at the end of the month. It'll be on the 29th from 10 till 2 at Cutler drive in Beaconsfield.
