Whitsunday detectives have charged a man with a number of drug offences after conducting a search warrant at Airlie Beach. It’s alleged they found a large about of cannabis, cocaine, drug paraphernalia and more than 45 thousand dollars in cash at a Hermitage Drive address on Tuesday afternoon. A 44 year old Airlie Beach man appeared in the Proserpine Magistrates Court yesterday on a string of charges including trafficking in dangerous drugs. He's next due in court on the fourth of September.

Dawson MP George Christensen and Whitsundays Mayor Andrew Wilcox say they will push for Category D funds to see Shute Harbour fully restored, for the Airlie foreshore revitalisation and for the Whitsunday Coast airport upgrade. They'll be speaking with Justice Minister Michael Keenan next Wednesday.

Mackay police are again looking for another stolen car after it was taken with the victim standing just meters away. Police say on Tuesday afternoon the victim parked the green Holden VF station wagon on Gregory Street and left it running while she walked to her workplace. The crim jumped in and took off and police are asking anyone with information on the offence to come forward.

More people are dropping into the MECC. The Mackay Entertainment and Convention Centre saw 205 shows in the 2016 and 17 financial year with 175 thousand people checking them out. That’s an increase on over 24 thousand people compared to the last financial year.

Tourism operators in the Whitsundays have submitted an impressive number of entries into the 2017 Queensland Tourism Awards. QTIC Chief Executive Daniel Gschwind says more than 20 local businesses have nominated.

LOCAL SPORT

The 2017 Under 13's hockey State Championships has delivered a rising star from Mackay. Patrick Sheedy competed in Gladstone and has been chosen to play with the Cutters. He says he's really thankful for all the help he's received.

The Mackay Meteors and Meteorettes will tomorrow take on sides from down south. They'll battle it out against the Brisbane Capitals at home.
