OP's are out and one of our schools has ranked in the top 50 in the state. Whitsunday Anglican School is 43rd in the state and the top in the region. 28 percent of students receiving an OP one to five. While St Patricks Senior College has seen 29 students get OP's one to five.

A Blacks Beach woman is due in court after being disqualified from driving twice in ten minutes. It happened on Saturday when she was first stopped for using her phone and then later stopped again by the same officer. Police say her license was already disqualified and she was given and notice to appear in court on both occasions.

The devastating coral bleaching event of 2016 may be returning in 2017 but in Mackay and the Whitsundays. According to the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration or Noaa eastern Australia waters are unusually warm increasing the risk of bleaching. Tony Fontes from the Mackay Conservation Group says local reports are backing up Noaa's data.

A massive superstar’s coming to Mackay later this year. The Premier is visiting the region and set to make the exciting announcement this morning.

Helicopter patrols will continue in the Mackay and Whitsundays region late into February. It's part of Powerlink’s maintenance program. Powerlink Chief Executive Merryn York says they aim to be as quick and non-disruptive as possible.

LOCAL SPORT

The Mackay Stingers union boys will play six representative games this season. It's the first this has happened in many years for the side with most representative teams playing only at championships and maybe one pre-season game. The Queensland Reds are working on boosting the profile of rugby in the region.

There's no stopping Mackay Triathlon Club member Jamie Bornman. She gave it her all at the annual Sonya Brazil Memorial Women's Only tri on Sunday and finished with the overall win. Bornman crossing the line in just over 30 minutes.
