Matthew James Ireland has entered a guilty plea to a charge of manslaughter in the Mackay Supreme Court. It's alleged 18 month old Hemi Goodwin-Burke was in the care of the 31 year old in Moranbah when he suffered bruises a broken rib and ruptured organs in 2015 and later died in hospital. Ireland faced an arraignment hearing yesterday and Hemi's family were told to remove their t-shirts featuring a photo of him by the Supreme Court judge. Ireland will be back in court in June for sentencing.

The rains expected to continue for the next week in Mackay and more roads are closing. Marlborough Sarina Road at Oxford has closed due to long term flooding as well as a few roads around Homebush.

The Palaszczuk Government’s Back to Work regional jobs program has helped 335 Mackay and Whitsunday locals back into employment. The 100 million dollar program supporting almost 200 employees find workers. So far local employers have received over one and a half million dollars in support payments

A lucky Austral Hotel goer is now a millionaire after winning at Keno. The Mackay pub posting on Facebook last night that a woman placed a Keno bet and walked away with better than 1-point-nine million yesterday

We're welcoming 65 new citizens into Mackay. They're from 20 different countries and were officially welcomed at a Citizenship Ceremony yesterday. Councillor Fran Mann says the ceremony was held on Harmony Day.

A fourth child care centre is now open in Walkerston. Walkerston Daycare Centre has places for almost 100 children.

LOCAL SPORT

The Mackay Cutters will go head to head with the Wynnum Manly Seagulls this weekend Its an away game for our boys but they're hoping it impress the Brisbane crowd on Saturday after they lost to the Townsville Blackhawks in Round three. Coach Steve Sheppard says the Seagulls will be tough to beat.

Young boxing champ Kyle Swanepoel from Mackay is off to the national titles. The 13 year old will compete in Adelaide early next month and if he wins he'll go to the Youth Commonwealth Games.
