The trial of John Peros who's charged with murder, has begun with the jury being shown a letter in the Mackay Supreme Court. In it Peros accuses his former partner Shandee Blackburn who died in 2013 of cheating and denying him sex. It was allegedly written a year before Ms Blackburn died in 2013. Peros is pleading not guilty and the trials expected to continue today.

Thousands of dollars in cash is missing from a business on Victoria Street in Mackay. Police allege a thief stole a cash tin holding nearly two thousand dollars from the licensed venue on Monday morning. The culprit’s described as a heavily built female with dark brown completion and with black and purple hair.

The first of the new Tigerair Australia flights into Whitsunday Coast Airport will start today. They'll operate four weekly return services between Brisbane and the Whitsunday Coast with the inaugural flight departing Brisbane at 7:30 this morning. The service will deliver almost 80 thousand additional visitor seats annually.

Mackay's business outlook is significantly more positive than Brisbane’s That’s according to the SV Partners March 2017 Commercial Risk Outlook Report. SV Partners Executive Director David Stimpson says only 2 and a half percent of the regions businesses are deemed at high risk of imminent financial failure.

Mackay locals are set to see a visit from a Functional Nutrition consultant who's determined to cut the kilos. Jodie Heselwood says she's alarmed by figures indicating 65 percent of Australian adults are overweight or obese. She says takeaway foods a problem.

LOCAL SPORT

Mackay’s Keesha Close is heading to the Gold Coast this weekend to compete in her very first Australian Lifesaving Titles. The 16 year old was crowned the 2016 junior life saver out of the North Barrier Branch.

The first-ever Super League Triathlon on Hamilton Island has been and gone and was a huge success. 23 athletes converging on the island to compete at the weekend. Richard Murray taking home the overall win and $100,000 on 56 points.
