A busy start to the winter school holiday's for our emergency services with a number of car crashes in our region. In 12 hours, 14 people were taken to the Mackay Base Hospital due to the crashes on Monday and Tuesday, Two women in their 50's ending up in hospital after a learner driver crashed through a fence and into a house in South Mackay yesterday afternoon.

 

A Mackay local has been left to foot the bill after tenants caused a lot of damage to a rental home on Milton Street. Police say it includes holes in multiple walls and doors, damaged door locks, windows and window screens, a bedroom door ripped from its hinges and smashed and much more.

The Mackay Council has a plan to overcome water quality issues in Eton. They're setting aside $650,000 in the budget that’s being adopted today to put down a new bore and add a water softening plant. Councilor Karen May says the number two bore will likely remain out of service.

 

The net free zone in Mackay is bringing a boost to our recreational fishing. According to a new report, the zone's seen a significant increase in recreational fisher satisfaction when compared to the previous year. Pikey bream proving to be the most popular in our region.

The Marian and Farleigh mills are off to a rocky start to the crushing season after a challenging week last week. Both had to take down time for maintenance work. While all three mills crushed over 136,000 tonnes.

LOCAL SPORT 

 

A North Queensland AFL team will be put together to battle off against the South on July 22. 57 men have been named from areas as far as Gladstone, Mackay, The Cape and Cairns. Coach Brad Cooper says the squad will become 22 in just weeks.

 While a Mackay under 14's basketball side will journey to Victoria for the National Champs. It’s the first time in more than a decade we've put in a junior rep team in the under 14's comp.
