A local MP is calling for a crocodile culling program. Whitsundays MP Jason Costigan says croc numbers have “ballooned” over the last four decades in his electorate. He says we should be using a “scientific” approach for the cull. Mr Costigan says Surf Lifesavers across the region are worried about public safety.

A 26 year old Mackay woman is facing a string of charges after police searched a Beaconsfield address. It's alleged they found weapons, ammunition, stolen property and a stolen vehicle from Sarina and more..

A one hundred and ten million dollar solar farm could be going in at Mirani. A development application has been lodged with the Mackay Council for the proposed 60 Mega Watt Farm. It would have 180 thousand solar panels and provide 100 jobs during construction.

There are plans to turn the historic Retreat Hotel near Nebo into a drug and alcohol rehabilitation centre. Owners Mike Haber and Gerard Falzon have lodged a development application with the Isaac Regional council. They hope to transform the pub into a 'Central Queensland Holistic Services' Centre that could accommodate up to 30 people before the end of the year.

There will be a partial road closure in Wood Street in the City Centre this event. It's for the Twilight five kay Marina Run Launch. The southbound lane only between Gordon and River Streets will be closed between 5:30 and 7:30.

LOCAL SPORT

Gridiron is coming to Mackay. The Mackay Mavericks American Football team of 30 is looking to join the North Queensland League. They'll be taking on sides from Townsville and Cairns.

The Sarina Crocodiles under 17's rugby league team is in desperate ned of players. If they don't find more -- they could fold -- as so far they have 10 players for their first game in three weeks.
