The Adani mine, south west of Mackay could be given the green light in a fortnight. It comes as the company's in the final phase of negotiations and approvals. A board is expected to make a financial decision in two weeks that would mean construction could start in August. While the last hurdle they're facing it whether labor will support the Native Title amendments. We could soon see up to 600 workers fill Adnai's Townsville office next month while Mackay's still listed as the project's maintenance hub.

Police are keeping busy catching eight drug drivers in our Mackay Roads in just one day. They were apprehended on Wednesday in Blacks Beach, South Mackay, Paget, East Mackay, Mackay City and Beaconsfield.

The Kutta Mulla Gorinna Alternative Education Program in Mackay could be forced to close in the near future. It’s running out of funding and has been knocked back by Queensland Department of Education, Department of Employment and Training, and Department of Justice. It's a school for at-risk or disengaged youth but its 23 students could soon be left with nowhere to go.

The crushing season will get underway for cane growers in the Plane Creek Mill area on the 20th of June.

Mackay is home to 3697 small businesses and we'll celebrate them during Queensland Small Business Week. It starts on the 15th of May and Mackay MP Julieanne Gilbert says we have to get our entries in to their social media challenge by then.

Mackay products Jacob Anderson, Matthew Swann and Kirsten Dwyer are set to play in the Queensland Blades and Scorchers hockey squads competing in the 2017 Australian Hockey League in Perth.
