Matthew James Ireland has been sentenced to eight and a half years jail time in the Mackay Supreme court over the death of an 18 month old toddler. The 31 year old's been charged with manslaughter after Hemi Goodwin-Burke died from injuries he sustained in Irelands care in 2015. He'll be eligible for parole in March 2019.

It's taken close to a decade but we finally have a single Mackay Planning Scheme. The State Government giving the 1080 page document the tick of approval yesterday. It's replacing the current three schemes.

The State Government has announced a Powering Queensland Plan but it's still not good enough according to Jason Costigan. The $1.6 billion dollar energy package fails to include a coal base-load power plant to be build in between Mackay and Townsville. Whitsunday MP says Collinsville would make an ideal location for a coal fired power station

A Proserpine retiree is on cloud nine after winning more than $2M in Saturday's Gold Lotto. She says she'll use the money to help her family, who had been badly affected by Cyclone Debbie and paint her storm-battered house.

LOCAL SPORT 

Mackay's well represented when it comes to women's rugby league with an 11 strong local contingent in the North Queensland women's side. They travelled to the Gold Coast at the weekend to compete in the Queensland Champs and lost one game and drew 10 all in another.

The 2017 Mackay Marina Run is over with Peter Run taking out the half marathon for the men with a time of one hour and 16 minutes.
