Police are appealing for help from Mackay witnesses in relation to a backpacker being held captive Officers stopping a white Pajero in Mitchell on Sunday where a woman was allegedly being held against her will Detective Inspector Paul Hart says the woman appeared to have been badly beaten  It's thought the vehicle may have travelled through Mackay in the past few months and was sighted in Bowen.

Local police are reminding residents to watch out for phone scammers. It comes as a scammer mistakenly dialed the Finch Hatton Police Station this week asking Constable Carl Butcherfor a sizable pay out due to a traffic crash. Constable Butcher played along but the scammer immediately hung up when told where she had directed her call.

Slade Point police are looking for a burglar who's broken into a business and stolen cash from a swear jar. They say the crim smashed a glass window on Wren Street sometime on Sunday morning and also took money from a charity collection tin.

We're urged to have our say over proposed changes to recreational and tourism use in the Whitsundays area of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park. Public comment is sought on proposed amendments to the Whitsundays Plan of Management. Some changes outlined are removing reef walking and further protecting seabirds.

Souths Suburban lawn bowlers Dealia Walsh and Peter Blackburn are off to the zone finals to represent Mackay. They took out the final of the district mixed pairs recently.
