There're calls to see a low-emission power plant built in the Mackay Whitsunday or Isaac region It’s coming from Dawson MP George Christensen who says he's hoping to see it built by tapping into the government’s 5 billion dollar Northern Australia Infrastructure Facility. The local MP made the announcement over Facebook on Saturday. Chairman-elect of the Greater Whitsunday Alliance development group John Glanville says it could be worth considering. He tells the Mercury we need to look at anything that will create new industry.
Roads have re-opened and flights have resumed with the rain easing in the Whitsundays. Commercial flights out of the Whitsunday Coast Airport were cancelled on Friday and Saturday. While Forecaster Sam Campbell from the Bureau tells the Whitsunday Times there's a slight chance we'll see better falls today but they'll be 20 millimetres at the most.
