A Mackay police officer is continuing to fight for his life after being hit by a car. He's been flown to Townsville following the accident on Glenella-Richmond Rd on Wednesday night. The 44 year old was off duty at the time and was out exercising.

A $50M biorefinery is set to go up in Mackay to be co-located at Mackay Sugar’s Racecourse Mill. The State Government’s expected to announce an over eight and a half million dollar funding boost for it with construction expected to start next year. The proposed Bio Processing Australia’s facility will create up to 115 jobs and have the capacity to annually produce up to 26 thousand tonnes of soymeal and 15 mega litres of biodiesel.

There are plans for a $40M upgrade for the Whitsunday Coast Airport. It'll go towards remediating the existing runway surface and upgrading the terminal for current domestic demand. The State Government's today announcing $15M for the project.

While the Airport recorded the highest percentage of on time arrivals of any airport in the country. That's according to the latest Aviation Domestic On Time performance report issued.

Local singer song writers are impressing the likes of Katie Noonan. Four have been chosen to be part of the Songs That Made Me program. Queensland Music Festival Artistic Director Katie Noonan says they're in for a big few months.

 LOCAL SPORT

The Mackay Cutters will go head to head with the guys from Townsville this weekend. It’s a home game for our boys but they're hoping to claim a double win. Coach Steve Sheppard says the Blackhawks won't be going easy on them.

While Mackay Brothers fullback Matt Skaife is on the Queensland Rangers side. The 22 year old receiving the call up following his stellar showing at last weekend's QRL State Carnival.
