The PM is being pushed to come and visit Mackay and the Whitsundays once more to see the damage caused by Cyclone Debbie. Dawson MP George Christensen says in a meeting in Canberra this week he raised the funding issue again in front of the Prime Minister and rest of the Liberal-National Coalition. He tells the Whitsunday Times he made sure that "every member of parliament has not forgotten about it". 

The Mackay Council’s got a plan to safeguard our water supply. The Infrastructure and Services Standing Committee has endorsed the Mackay Water Strategy and the Mackay Regional Water Supply Security Assessment. Councillor Karen May says they'll be focusing on treatment capacity heading into the future. The new strategy also includes a plan to upgrade the Nebo Road Water Treatment Plant to the tune of 13 million dollars over the next 15 years.

 

The Palaszczuk Government’s Back to Work regional jobs program seem to be working in Mackay and the Whitsunday's. Over 90 local jobseekers are working thanks to it. The program supporting almost 400 local employers.

 

The CQUni Mackay Open Day is on this Saturday. There'll be hourly campus tours as well as robotic hand displays. Campus coordinator Cynthia Simpson says there'll be plenty to see

 

LOCAL SPORT:

Fingers are crossed for our Mackay Central Highlands Karate Squad who is jetting over to Ireland. They'll soon compete in the JKA World Karate Championships. 29 locals have been selected in the National team -- making out region the most represented. The comp kicks off on the 18th but they're heading over a week early to acclimatise.

It's time to break out the Budgie Smugglers, Tightie Whities to raise money for charity. Mackay Hockey Association and Suicide Prevention Network are running a Fundraiser Day and Undies Dash on the 12th. Mackay Hockey secretary Rachel Simpson says they want to get the community outdoors.
