Mackay could be one of the Top 10 Australian Destinations to Experience in 2017 with the help of support from locals.
Mackay is currently sitting at number two position, just behind The Whitsundays. It is up against 17 other destinations in the Major Destination category, which was won by The Whitsundays last year.
Experience Oz is running the competition for the fifth year, to highlight some of the best major, regional and island destinations in Australia.
Voters are asked to choose their favourite travel spot based on its uniqueness, natural highlights, man-made highlights, history and culture, food and wine and desirability.
Tourism operator Kerryn Beck from The Shores Holiday Apartments at Blacks Beach believed Mackay was a stand-out among other destinations.
“We’ve got 31 pristine beaches in The Mackay Region; sometimes you even have the beach to yourself. We have amazing food from a myriad of diverse cultures and beautifully restored art-deco buildings in the City Centre, lush green rainforests and freshwater swimming holes at Eungella National Park and Platypus Beach,” Mrs Beck said.
‘To top all this off, we have wonderful wildlife experiences around every corner, and ideal weather.”
“Mackay is very worthy of being named a Top Destination in Australia. It takes two seconds to vote and could put Mackay on the map for more visitors.”
Voting ends Monday, 23 October. To vote, visit HERE.
