A sailor had to be rescued yesterday afternoon after his 10 metre yacht became wedged on a sand bar off Shoal Point. An emergency beacon was set off on board Shoreline Song by a man in his 50's after he misjudged the tide levels near Little Green Island. The RACQ CQ helicopter promptly located the boat and man.

Realestate company Domain has released its quarterly housing report with Mackay showing a sharp price decline. Regional Queensland though has steadied with many areas likely reaching a boundary for price growth. The company's Chief Economist Andrew Wilson says the region has seen a significant annual decline of 6.4 per cent annually.

 

The Queensland Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Foundation has celebrated 45 Mackay students graduating Year 12 on scholarships in a ceremony at CQU yesterday. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships Minister Mark Furner said the State Government was investing an extra $4.2 million dollars towards the scholarship program until 2021.

Mirani MP Jim Pearce says that most of the people he has spoken to believe that people in pain should have the choice whether they want to suffer in pain or die in peace. It’s prompted him to push for a Dying with Dignity legislation

 

LOCAL SPORT 

 

Local rugby league star Dane Gagai has officially entered the Aussie Kangaroo camp as of yesterday. Preparations will now start in the lead up to the 20 17 World Cup.

 

Cape Hillsborough Beach will be a hive of activity this weekend with the Central Queensland Blokart Club holding its 9th annual regatta. Racing will begin after 9.30 am both days.
