Queensland Fire Service were busy last night with a grass fire in Bucasia.

The RACQ CQ Helicopter was deployed last night at around 6pm to pick up an elderly male patient in Collinsville. The man was taken to Mackay base hospital suffering from a medical condition.

The Mackay council have been congratulated for showcasing what the region has to offer. The praise comes from hosting a WasteQ conference at the MECC- starting yesterday. Waste Management Association CEO Gayle Sloan says Mackay was an ideal hosting location off the back of the councils work.

The Minister for Justice Yvette D’Ath has announced eight new magistrates for Queensland- one to be based in Mackay. Mark Nolan is a Principal Lawyer with Legal Aid Queensland’s Caboolture Office- he'll make the move north in coming months.

Parents from Mackay Christian College are big winners from the Gonski education funding plan that recently passed Federal Parliament. The school has opted to reduce fees by $600 dollars for primary school tuition and freeze fees for secondary students. Dawson MP George Christensen says the school will be $300 thousand dollars better off in 20 18

 

Tomorrow is McHappy Day and Mackay stores are dressing up and selling big. Now in its 26th year the event is the largest annual fundraiser for Ronald McDonald House Charities Australia. Ooralea store event manager Leesa Hodges says she encourages everyone to come down- dress up and purchase big mac's.

The Mackay Cutter have announced another key signing to their 20 18 season- Jordan Grant. The 23 year old is a WESTS TIGERS NRL player- he'll add to the team’s strength in the front row

 

The Mackay under 10;s indoor cricket team are state champions after taking on the Toowoomba side and winning.
