Investigations are continuing into a serious crash in Walkerston last night. A 21 year old man has serious head injuries as a result. Police say a car travelling on Walkerston Homebush Road left it and collided with a power pole at around 7.

 The Mackay Conservation Group is calling on Adani to start engineering works on its Abbot Point port facility. Group coordinator, Peter McCallum says they need to ensure there are no repeat incidents of pollution of the Great Barrier Reef coast, not fight a $12,000 fine for a breach the company itself reported to the Queensland Environment Department. He alleges they admitted to releasing more than eight times its licenced concentration of pollution in March and are now considering challenging the fine.

Less than 260 houses a year will be built across the Mackay/Whitsunday and Isaac region. That’s according to the company BIS Oxford Economics. Their report predicting there’ll be no increase in the rate of residential building over the next two years.

Airlie Beach is putting on the glitz to host the Mackay Isaac Whitsunday 2017 Regional Projects Forum It's the first time it's come to the town with the focus set to be on Whitsundays tourism recovery projects. Mackay MP Julieanne Gilbert says locals will have able to hear about big projects straight from the horses mouth.

 

Today is International Rosé Day and stats show Mackay is on the top five list of suburbs that order the most rosé wine in the country.

LOCAL SPORT

 

The Mackay Meteors are full steam ahead, taking out a win over Logan Thunder at the weekend. Our guys have out firing to finish ten points ahead. The scoreboard reading 93% points to 83%. It means they'll next weekend take on the Rockhampton Rockets in the Semi-Finals.

The Mackay Cutters won't be playing in the Q Cup finals this year. They needed to win all three of their last games to secure their spot. Our boys clashed with the Burleigh Bears on Saturday and lost 28 points to 16. Braden Uele and Bennett Leslie our try scorers.
