Fire this morning in Pratt Street.

A house on Pratt Street in Mackay has gone up in flames this morning. Firies receiving the call to attend the scene just after 3am. They say it was fully engulfed when they arrived but luckily no one was inside.

A Racecourse Mill worker has been rushed to hospital after suffering burns on site. Mackay Sugar yesterday confirming the 24 year old fugal operator was injuries when hot water hit him.

Education Department figures reveal drug and weapon use is becoming a serious issue in Mackay state primary and high schools. LNP Shadow Education Minister Tracy Davis has visited the region, calling on Labor to make schools a safer place. Ms Davis says cocaine and marijuana are being brought in to school yards.

 Bob Katter will put forward his party's Crocodile Culling legislation in Parliament this week. The legislation is a push to capture ALL crocs and deliver them to a second crocodile farm..yet to be created. Mr Katter says the issue affects everyone from Port Douglas to Mackay. 

 

Life Education Queensland and their mascot Healthy Harrold is dropping into Mackay today to celebrate 200 thousand Queensland students benefiting from the program. That’s over the last 12 year's.  Prep students at Victoria Park State School will be exploring the ‘My Body Matters’ module during the visit.

LOCAL SPORT

The Whitsunday Sea Eagles have swooped in to claim another win in the Allied Pickfords Cup. They got it over the Bakers Creek Tigers in Round 17 at the weekend. The scoreboard reading 110 points to 33.

Mackay's young rugby league sensations -- Harry and Henry Thorpe are celebrating after helping the under 12's Queensland Schoolboys team take out the Schoolboys National Rugby League Championship.
