A 55 year old man has been airlifted to the Mackay Base Hospital following a ute and trailer rolling at Clairview. It happened at around 11 on the Bruce Highway yesterday morning. The Emu Park man has head, neck and back injuries and his wife has also been taken to hospital.

Benjamin Francis Graeme Oakley's parole has been granted after he was sentenced to eight years jail time for manslaughter. It’s following the death of Mackay local Timothy John Pullen in 2012. Mr Pullen's parents say they feel betrayed with reports of the Minister for Corrective Services Mark Ryan knowing about his parole being passed when he met with them at a No Body No Parole media conference last week.

Dawson MP George Christensen is up in arms over a Senators push to scrap the Sugar marketing Code of Conduct. He says NSW Senator Leyonhjelm is claiming he has the support of Queensland labor senators to move a disallowance motion into the Senate. Our local MP says the senator has no experience or understanding of the sugar industry.

The annual Mackay Airport Beach Horse Races is back on this Saturday. More than 3 and a half thousand people flocked to the event last year. Organiser Sarah Annetts is hoping for 5 to 6 thousand visitors this year.

 

It's almost time to lace up for the 2017 Beach to Gardens Charity Fun Run. It's on the 20th of August and will this year include a 1 and a half kay Pawsome Dog Walk. RACQ CQ Rescue's Events Co-ordinator Rebecca Morgan says there'll be professional photographers at this year’s event.

 

LOCAL SPORT

 

The under 15's and 18's Mackay sevens girls will kick off their two day rugby campaign at BB print Stadium today. The sides will be taking on teams from the Central Highlands with the first game at ten to 5 this afternoon.

AND the Queensland Wanderers Cricket tour will hit our region tomorrow. Some big name cricket players will be holding a coaching clinic at Mirani High School oval before a limited overs one day clash with the local Pioneer Valley first grade team.
