Works on the damaged Sarina Range are set to kick off in October. Tenders are currently being called, with RoadTek already repairing the main slip site. We should see soil nailing and other works on the Marlborough, Sarina road start next month.

The Queensland Council of Unions Mackay Equality Campaign will rally in the CBD this Thursday afternoon. It'll kick off at Town Hall Park in Sydney Street at 5:30 and wrap up at Blue Water Quay.

Orange Sky has put out the call for volunteers to help run a new homeless service in Mackay. The company's CEO Jo Westh will be in town today launching the mobile cleaning vehicle. She says it will work to give daily dignity back to those less fortunate.

Andergrove locals will see water interruptions today. They'll be between 10 this morning and 1 with council disconnecting the old water main in Bedford Road. Some affected streets include Coles Road, Magellan and Dampier drives as well as Leichardt Way.

Eungella National Park in The Mackay Region is set to come alive with the Eungella Bird Week and Bushwalking Festival. The inaugural event on from next Monday to the first of October. President of Birdlife Mackay Daryl Barnes says there'll be presentations workshops and plenty of walks

 

The Glenden Swimming Pool will be open longer now the weather's heating up. The new hours are from 6 am to 6 pm Monday to Friday and 10 till 5 on the weekend.

LOCAL SPORT

 

The Mackay Brothers Bulldogs under 9's boys are celebrating a massive win. The young rugby league sensation's walking away the Paul Bowman challenge champions at the weekend. 54 teams give it their all the Brothers taking on the Whitsunday Brahmans in the grand final and drawing 12 all. While the Mackay boys scored the first try to claim the cup.

Local anglers are gearing up for a good few months on the water the warmer weather attracting whiting and even some Barra and King salmon.
