Investigations will continue today after Police were called to an address at Eton following reports of a shooting incident. When Police arrived just after midday a 33 year old man had fled the scene- Police located him a short time later with what is believed to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was treated by QAS on scene and taken to Mackay Base Hospital with life-threatening injuries

There's been a fatal industrial incident at Mirani. A 62-year-old woman has died after being struck by a cane train in Mackay’s Pioneer Valley yesterday. The Forensic Crash Unit and Workplace Health and Safety are investigating

More than 25,000 homes lost power in the Mackay region yesterday afternoon due to a flash thunderstorm. By 7pm power was being restored- according to Ergon Energy's power outage finder 194 homes are missing power this morning. Rainfall totals from the storm yesterday reached 22mm in some areas. More storms are forecast for today. 

Up to 20 post graduate scholarships will be up for grabs at CQU's Mackay campus for students wanting to work in domestic and family violence sector. Prevention Minister Shannon Fentiman visited the region yesterday and says that they're working hard to combat the issue.

LOCAL SPORT

 

The Mackay Magpies Crusaders have just appointed a new Technical Director to start with the club next year. Tass Kalogirou will fill the position for the clubs inaugural National Premier League season- taking over from Darryl Cash. Mr Cash says the side is in capable hands.

Basketballer Shane Cooks-Reynolds has been selected to play for two state teams next year.
