A 25 year old man had to be airlifted to Hospital yesterday after the car he was travelling in crashed down into a creek on the Bruce Highway near Pindi Pindi. The man is believed to have been a hitchhiker on his way to a music festival- instead he was flown to Mackay base hospital.

A new domestic violence task force has been set up in Mackay to try and help educate workplaces about the growing issue. Paid leave and legal help will now be offered to those needing time away from work. Mackay's Acting Superintendant Ian Haughton says help is needed from the community to tackle this issue.

 

Airbag senor data is now under scrutiny in a double fatality inquest currently in the Mackay Courthouse. Today marks the third and last day Coroner John Aberdeen heard Police evidence that the ute driven by Adam Wisley was travelling at 161 klm per hour in the lead up to the 2011 Peak Downs accident. The impact killed Lardeen and Matthew Glennon.

It's all aboard the Cuts Express bus today with Labor Ministers Cameron Dick, Mark Bailey and Anthony Lynham all expected to take a trip to Mackay hospital. They'll talk with nurses this morning  about the threat of cuts that will happen in Mackay under a LNP-One Nation coalition government

 

Popular music duo- Angus and Julia Stone have announced they're coming to Mackay. Tuesday May 1 is their concert date to be held at the Entertainment Centre.

LOCAL SPORT

 

A talented local has made it to the 20 18 Under 15s Boys Hockey Team. 15 year old Logan made the scouts take note after playing some great games at last week’s state challenge. He says he's got some huge plans for the future. The team will now compete in Goulburn New South Wales from January 16 to 20.

 

Despite offers from other clubs Chris Cedar has confirmed he'll re-sign with the Mackay Meteors or the 20 18 Basketball season. The commitment marks his fourth season with the club.
