In a last minute bid to sway voters In our region- former Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce met with the region's LNP candidates at the Northern Beaches Bowling Club. He stressed the Liberals were committed to building dams and roads. But on the other side of town Minister Mark Bailey wanted to remind locals of the damage the Liberals have done in the past.

In our region, a total of 182,840 tonnes of sugar cane was crushed last week at the three Mackay mills. It brings the total cane crushed for the season to almost 4 million 601 thousand- marking 92 per cent of the 5 million tonne crop. They're back on track after losing crushing opportunities during the week due to cane supply interruption with rain falling throughout the district.
