Mackay has been declared an ALP safe seat with Labor incumbent Julianne Gilbert back to work today. Labor MP Jim Pearce is in doubt in his seat of Mirani, sitting at 37 per cent but being chased down by One Nation's Stephen Andrew at 31.5. Whitsunday MP Jason Costigan will also have to wait to out today at the least to find out if he will remain in power. The LNP are currently sitting at 32.39 per cent with Labor’s Bronwyn Taha closely behind on 31.37. Bronwyn Taha says "I've been through this before, I'm feeling fine but no matter what happens we can all say we put everything into this,".

A 20 year old Mirani man has died following a single vehicle traffic crash at Eungella Dam over the weekend. Police investigations indicate around 10pm on Friday night a ute was driving along Mount Barker Road when it left the roadway and rolled. All three occupants were thrown from the vehicle. The driver and second passenger, both 20, were transported to the Mackay Base Hospital.

A battery from a remote controlled model car has exploded and left a Mackay teen in hospital. Paramedics were called to the Evan street address just after 11am yesterday. He suffered burns to his eyes.

Mackay's Ky Hamilton headed down to the PBR Top Gun and Young Gun finals at the weekend. He managed to manoeuvre his bull for 10 seconds- an impressive feat after an earlier mishap where the animal stepped on his stomach. He went home with the Junior and Rookie rising title riding Firepower in the top guns.

Five of Mackay's best Mountain Bike Riders are heading to Orange next weekend to compete in the XO National Series. The two day event will see Peter Lister defend his 2 year National series champion title
