A home at Haliday Bay has been gutted by fire overnight. Fire crews were called to a home on Blue Beach Boulevard around 8.40 pm- it took over an hour to control the flames. An elderly neighbour had to be treated by Ambulance workers on scene for smoke inhalation.

The victim of yesterday's fatal truck crash south of Gin Gin has been identified as a 25 year old man from Proserpine. He was the passenger- along with a 29 year old man also from the region- who escaped with serious injuries. The truck driver was taken to Bundaberg Hospital with cuts and a lower leg injury.

Whitsundays MP Jason Costigan is furious over airlines taking advantage of locals trying to get to the NRL Grand final next weekend. He says there should be an investigation held into the matter

Public consultation on eight Isaac swimming pools starts October 9 to 31. Mayor Anne Baker says she wants to hear from locals- there's a chance to win an annual pool family pass just for speaking out.

74 legendary bands will play at the Airlie beach festival of music. Discounted early bird tickets discontinue on October 1.

LOCAL SPORT 

Proserpine's BMX club has returned home with a number of wins in the state titles held in Townsville. Isabella Allan competed in the 12 year girls class- making the semifinals- so did Peter Little in the superclass round. Club president Kristy Puckridge says it was a mammoth effort from all riders.

The state finals are on the cards for Proserpine bowlers. They're qualified to be part in the 2018 pennant competition after a great win against emerald. It was a 22 to 2 lead for most of the game.
