The emergence of a secret State Government report into a new north Queensland coal power station has prompted LNP Shadow Agriculture Minister Dale Last to speak out in Mackay yesterday. He claims the report found it would be viable, profitable, cut electricity costs for households and businesses and ensure energy security for the region. 

The Airlie Beach Safe Night precinct is going ahead with CCTV cameras ahead of a planned December rollout. The devices have been installed this week after the initial rollout was delayed because of Cyclone Debbie.

Spinal Life Australia is host a community meeting tomorrow to discuss making Mackay more inclusive. Tomorrow also marks the one-year anniversary of the National Disability Insurance Scheme rollout in the region. Spinal Life Australia Chief Advisor - Government John Mayo says a lot has been done but they're working fine tuning services.

 

Mackay fishers looking to catch Barramundi have run out of time to do so. Any fishers found taking barramundi during the closed season could face fines of more than $100 thousand dollars and a court date. The season started at midday yesterday and Queensland Fisheries Patrol district manager Robert Russell says there are no exceptions for illegal fishing.

The Mackay Lions Soccer Club has celebrated a successful 2017 season recognising 10 locals individually with awards. Jake Smith or goalkeeper of the year- Kayla Lette for Under 18 women's rising star and Bruce Clarendon for most improved referee among the names.

 

Young Rugby League Brahmans player Sean Okabe has been chosen to showcase his skills in Japan against Hong Kong on Saturday. He's hoping to help them qualify for the Rugby League World Cup
