A pair of Mackay politicians are hoping an ice forum tonight will get the ball rolling on a solution to the problem. 50 people are expected at Souths Leagues club for the discussion, with the information to go into the Queensland Government’s action plan. Mirani MP Jim Pearce explains why the forum has been organised.

The Queensland tourism awards have added an extra category. CEO of Tourism Whitsundays Craig Turner says that the new category has a lot of merit.

In the spirit of Halloween- the Mackay Conservation group is holding a snap action Adani protest today from 10am. They're dressing up in politician costumes to demonstrate the very scary business of special treatments and handouts for the mining giant.

LOCAL SPORT

Almost 200 Mackay Magpies players were awarded for their sporting excellence during the clubs annual Magpie of the Year Awards ceremony at the weekend. The award night guests also heard the inspirational story of guest speaker- Olympic gold medallist Kerri Pottharst who spoke of her glory in beach volleyball at Bondi in 2000. The Magpie of the Year award went to Carol Hodge for her 23 years of service

Two Mackay athletes- Danny Mayfield and Scott Reid will don green and gold next year representing Australia in the Men's Hockey Masters World Cup in Barcelona.
