Police have charged a 33 year old Eton man following investigations into an alleged shooting incident in South Mackay on Tuesday. He's been charged with 8 offences including attempted murder, attempted robbery and serious assault on police. Police finalising the matter at his bed side where he continues to stay after sustaining serious injuries.

LNP Shadow Education Minister Tracy Davis has paid a visit to Mirani State High school with candidate Kerry Latter announcing $300,000 would go to provide the students with a safe pedestrian crossing. She also made a $50,000 commitment to purchase new chairs for the school.

Education commitments continued around the region with Whitsundays ALP Candidate Bronwyn Taha discussing funding an infrastructure makeover at the ageing Proserpine State High School with Education Minister Kate Jones. Ms Jones says they're working hard to restore what the LNP have cut and have hired 80 new teachers and 13 new teacher aides in the Whitsundays since elected. The Minister is keen to make the project a reality  if re-elected 

Origin’s new Mackay LPG terminal has been officially opened following an 18 months planning and construction period and is set to continue the supply of LPG to homes and businesses in Mackay and surrounding districts. The new terminal now features 100 tons of LPG storage- a new tanker and cylinder loading facilities and the latest safety features through-out- including fully underground storage tanks.

LOCAL SPORT

The Mackay region will get an influx of surf lifesavers this weekend- they're arriving to compete in the 2017 North Australian Championships. In total nearly 500 will battle it out for glory in every age group from under 11s right through to masters.

Matthew Docking has claimed his third Australian PGA Professionals Championship title in four years- taking to the Whitsunday's jewel- Dent Island- and a challenging course.
