Our region is on flood watch today as we're set for one last bout of thunderstorms before the low weather systems clears off the coast tomorrow. The Bureau of Meteorology issued a warning at the weekend with falls of up to 180mm current from Mackay to the NSW border. So far, it's been the Pioneer Valley that's copped the highest falls. Munbura recorded 49 millimetres. 9 News Brisbane has more. 

Whitsunday MP Jason Costigan is calling for the Liberal National Party to deliver a Barnaby Joyce type figure of the North. Despite being surrounded by a majority Labor electorates- Mr Costigan believes HE could be what the region needs- touching home on big issues.

 

From the end of the 2019 season there won't be a Raw Sugar Supply Agreement with Mackay Sugar and its marketer- Queensland Sugar Limited after the local company chose to terminate the agreement. QSL says they're now working on options to continue marketing Mackay Sugar's products.

More dead sharks have appeared at Louisa Creek beach over the weekend- according to campaigner Lance Payne. Yesterday morning Mr Payne says he discovered EIGHT of two different species including Hammerheads.

LOCAL SPORT

The Jillaroo have retained the women's rugby world cup with a 7 point win over the Kiwi Ferns at the weekend. The trans-Tasman rivalry continues with the final score 23 to 16. Mackay's very own Brittany Breayley took spot number 9 and Renae Kunst- 11- on the day. Co- captain Steph Hancock says it was an overwhelming experience for all the team.

A little rain wasn't going to stop the dozens of Cowboys and Cowgirls flocking to the Pioneer Hotel's grounds for the inaugural Pinnacle Bull Bash. No stranger to the arena was Nebo Bull rider Justin Paton.... he won his way to a $5 thousand dollar win.
