An elderly couple has been airlifted to hospital after rolling their car and caravan at St Lawrence. It happened yesterday morning on the Bruce highway. The pair having to be cut free from the wreckage after they rolled into trees lining the highway. The RACQ Capricorn Rescue chopper crew say both patients have internal injuries and suspected fractures.

While a 65 year old man is luckily ok after his car rolled at Paget. His car colliding with another vehicle on Farrellys road just after 11 on Saturday morning.

A maintenance man has been rushed to hospital after being stabbed in the Mackay Grade Suites Car park. It allegedly happened yesterday afternoon when he confronted a man who was trying to break into cars. It's understood he was stabbed in to the stomach but his injuries are non-life threatening.

While Keeley's road in Mackay was closed off this morning with police doing patrols in the area. A spokesperson says they're looking for a suspect person but haven’t yet found them.

The fire at Illawong Beach is now out... after crews jumped into action last night. It started at around 6:30 threatening two properties in the area.

While we're urged to be bush fire and natural disaster ready following Mackay seeing the warmest and driest winter on record. The Bureau tells the Mercury it's increased our disaster risk with our average winter day around 24.9 degrees.

We're all invited to the RACQ CQ RESCUE ELTON JOHN FANCY DRESS FAMILY FUN DAY FUNDRAISER. It's on the 16th at the Mackay Turf Club. RACQ Rescue's Rebecca Morgan says they day's about having a bit of fun bit there's a serious side to it...

 

LOCAL SPORT

 

The Magpies netball girls have swooped in to claim a win over DAS in the premier league grande final. They defeated them 39 points to 36 in extra time. At full time the scores were locked at 31 all.

Both the Brothers A 1 men and women hockey teams are celebrating after becoming this year's champions. The guys taking out the Norths in the grand final 3 points to 2. While the women defeated the Arsenals to win the premiership for a third consecutive year.
