The region's being hit hard with the flu with the Mackay Hospital seeing more than 200 people for the flu in the last 2 weeks. That includes local teenager, Mercedes King who's now in a coma in the ICU two days after coming down with the flu.

The process to lure the Logies to Mackay and the Whitsundays next year has been officially lodged in Parliament overnight. Whitsundays MP Jason Costigan proposed the idea after the Victorian Government decided Melbourne had become a poor fit. Mr Costigan says if successful the region could accommodate the 100 odd television personalities.

 While Mackay Sugars reaching the halfway points. The mills in Farleigh Marian and Racecourse having crushed almost 2 and a half million tonnes of cane of 48 percent of the current crop estimate.

The Mackay Council's calling for feedback on the redevelopment of the North Mackay Rotary Lookout. They say the current architecture has aged and is no longer compliant and some of the landscaping has become overgrown and they're looking to give it a facelift. Rumours are flying that Mackay Cutters boy Braden Uele has signed with the Cronulla Sharks. While the move isn't been confirmed by either the North Queensland Cowboys or the Sharks.

The Pioneer Valley Lawn Bowls club members are still celebrating after taking out the Pratt Cup over City at the weekend.
