An Anti Adani protest has caused the Whitsunday Regional Council to launch an investigation. Protesters shutting the rail line down at Abbot Point for the second time in two weeks. Councillor Mike Brunker says he’s disgusted and they’re not welcome in the region.

Someone in Beaconsfield has a snake that's not theirs. Breaking into a home on Avocado Court on Wednesday night and stealing the reptile along with two apple iPhones. Police from Mackay Northern Beaches wanting to speak with anyone who may have seen a person with a white snake.

The Smith family are appealing for Mackay residents to sponsor kids going back to the classroom. The Back To School program helps provide students with everything they need to go back to study for the ones whose families can't afford it. General manager for the Smith Family in Queensland Alan Lamey says it's a great way for the community to give back.

 

A stolen car set alight is believed to have sparked a grassfire at Eastpoint, near Mackay Harbour. Nick Kelly from 9 News Mackay was there. 

 

It's almost been one hundred years since Mackay was nearly wiped off the map. The 1918 cyclone ripping through the region, with lives lost and the town flattened. A centenary exhibition at the Jubilee community centre this Saturday in memory of the victims. Mayor Greg Williamson says it's not too late to get a cyclone plan in place.

LOCAL SPORT

The Whitsunday Regional Council is asking for nominations for the senior and junior sporting awards. It's all a part of the Australia Day awards in the region. They're looking for an outstanding sports person who made themselves a part of the community in 2017.
