Mackay’s the place to be according to experts. The town set to boom with new projects coming up for the 20-18 year thanks to a rise in coal prices. Housing prices also set to draw more families to the area as they steady.

Mackay Clubhouse is a club that you need to be in. The mental health advocates making waves for their non-clinical approach to helping people. Operations Manager, Aaron Farrell says the program is helping get people back into the community.

A dusty weekend ahead for the Whitsundays community. Mackay and Airlie locals flocking to the Clipper Race Carnival Rodeo in Bowen tomorrow.. with 85 cowboys saddling up for cash prizes. Organisers hoping for a crowd of 1200. Tourism and Whitsundays marketing manager Natasha Wheeler says there's something on offer for everyone.

Robert Denman’s taken out the Mackay citizen of the year award. President of the Mackay show for the past five years, the 80 year olds been helping since a teenager. Seventeen year old Clare Pullman receiving the young citizen of the year award for being the driving force behind the Run as 1 cystic fibrosis event.

 

Police are warning motorists to be safe on our roads over the Australia Day long weekend, as many families prepare to hit the road.

  

Laptops, TV's, jewellery and even cutlery’s been stolen from a home in Mackay. The family away on holidays returning to an absolute shell of the former home they know and their two cars missing. Thieves believed to have returned two or three times to finish the job at the Richmond Hills home. Almost everything but the kitchen sink taken while the family holidayed.

 

 

LOCAL SPORT

A junior Oz tag team the Mackay Mustangs are helping each other out. The under 13 girls and under 13 and 11 boys sides working together to support each other at the Junior state Cup. The girls hoping to hold onto their championship status from 20-17s competition.

The Mackay Magpies are looking forward to a stellar season. New Coach Lisa Carr announced to be the premier league coach. She brings  a wealth of knowledge to the club, already part of the family as a coach and player.
