Willful damage charges for a Bowen Youth. The boy was identified by CCTV footage throwing something at the front of a shop on January 25. This was the latest incident in a string of attacks on local businesses throughout the month. He will be dealt with under the Youth Justice Act

Rockhampton prison escapee arrested in Mackay. Jermaine Anderson was arrested without incident yesterday afternoon after allegedly being on the run since Sunday. Fronting the Mackay Magistrates Court he didn't enter a plea. He will reappear today

Midge Point residents brace for erosion in wake of king tide. While tides lapped at the levee created in defence of Cyclone Debbie residents are concerned it isn't enough. Weather reports predict another big tide and strong onshore winds to hit the region again today. If the levee is breached it could drastically affect homes on Nielsen Parade.

Plans to redevelop the Mackay riverfront and town beach. Council hoping to attract the attention of the state government to transform the area. They'll meet next week to discuss what to do, with a possible water park and volleyball court on the cards.

Mackay fishermen are excited to hook a big barra. The season opening yesterday with increased stocks in Mackay waters. The conditions come after the introduction of the Net Free Fishing Zones in 2015. Research conducted by the Mackay Recreational Fishers Alliance found stocks of Barra had increased six times over the past two years. The biggest one caught was a whopping 101cm at Pioneer River 

Mackay Animal Rescue Society dog coordinator Amanda Warry says they're looking for homes for about ten dogs, ranging from eight weeks to two years old and about  ten cats. Information can be found on their Facebook page

 

The lifesaving RACQ Central Queensland Rescue Chopper has been given a big boost.

A Mackay runner could be a state and national champ over the next few weeks. Josiah McCarthy making a split decision to run in the 200 and 800 metre races on Australia Day at the Denise Boyd Shield event. His eyes firmly set on the Gold Coast games.

Mackay Meterottes are set to hold onto a favourite. Jacqui Zelenka back for the 2018 season with the regions basketball team. The resigning happening thanks to the Global Product Search.

Souths Cricket Club has been put through a hard week of training as they prepare for their crucial double header in the T20 competition this weekend.
