Proposed tax cuts are under scrutiny. Small businesses in Mackay are expected to not benefit at all. Queensland Labor Senator Murray Watt says the State Government isn't thinking about regional Queensland when it comes to the tax cuts.
A Mackay resident becomes the victim of a Facebook lottery scam. Queensland Police say victims are being unexpectedly contacted on Facebook by someone claiming to be an employee. Telling victims they've won the seven and a half million dollar prize in the lottery. Victims are then asked to pay legal, late, or admin fees to release the money. The victim from Mackay losing more than $100,000.00
Work commences on establishing a state wide body for the Australian South Sea Islander community. The state government approving a further fifty thousand dollar grant to enable Mackay regional council to move forward. The grant aiming to help council complete its current recruitment with sufficient funding
The North Queensland Games are on. The opening Ceremony getting underway tonight with gates opening at 5:30 at Harrup Park. There'll be a concert band, fireworks and performances by local performers. The four event Hamilton Island Endurance Series kicks off this weekend. Starting with the Stamford Financial Hilly Marathon Sunday. All eyes then turning to the Great Whitehaven Beach Run, the Hamilton Island Triathlon with the Junior Tri and Splash'n'Dash, as well as the Whitehaven Beach Ocean Swim. All events run from now with the last getting underway in November
The 10,000 steps program opens its second round of Community grants. Funded by the Queensland Government and delivered by C-Q-University it provides an opportunity for groups to use the program to implement strategies encouraging physical activity in Mackay The grants increasing this year with up to five thousand dollars available per allotment
