Mackay Police are fed up with drivers ignoring speed limits. Concentrating on major roads in the area they allegedly recently pulled up 47 drivers for speeding. The major roads targeted were the Bruce Highway, Fitzroy Development Road and most notorious the Peak Downs Highway. Police are urging motorists to rethink their relationship with speed

 

A new mental health service has been launched in North Queensland. Mackay residents can access the 24-7 service through a helpline, web chat, or video counselling. NQPHN Project Manager Sandi Winner says the whole idea is Early Intervention to stop mental illnesses from escalating. To access it go to nqconnect.com.au

 

Mackay Locals are being encouraged to upskill. Minister for Employment and Small Business Shannon Fentiman says the one million dollars in funding will provide resources for local businesses.. encouraging them to take on apprentices. Ms Fentiman says a traineeship or apprenticeship has an 86 per cent success rate of getting people into a job.

 

LOCAL SPORT

 

Round 20 of NPL will see the Magpies take on South West Queensland Thunder this weekend. The Magpies will be hoping to move up the ladder a notch -- currently sitting 12th on 15 points. South West Queensland are 10th on 21 points. Magpies Head Coach Carlos Garcia says last time they took on the Thunders, it was a tough game.

 

The Cutters are prepped and ready for a round 17 clash with the Ipswich Jets. They'll face off at home tonight at 7:30
