An electrician has been jailed over the death of a tradie in his care at a job site in Clermont. The young man was killed in 20-12 when he was electrocuted on a site rampant with safety breaches. The site was due to be shut down by safety officers when Jason Garrelss was killed. Nathan Brian Day, now 31, pleaded guilty to manslaughter in Brisbane's Supreme Court. Sentenced to seven years he's eligible for parole in 20-20

Mackay's RACQ CQ Rescue Chopper flies north to assist with evacuations in Northern Queensland. The chopper airlifting two patients from towns near Ingham isolated by floodwaters. Both patients had fallen in floodwaters in separate incidents causing serious injuries. They were transported to Townsville Hospital in stable conditions

A phone scam is targeting the elderly in Mackay. Police receiving reports of two incidents over the weekend where a scammer convinces people to buy heaps of ITunes cards. They pretend to be a trusted organisation and convince you to make the buy at your nearest shop. Residents are being reminded to trust their guts and hang up

Mackay and Whitsundays groups can now apply for the coalitions regional growth fund. It's for businesses who have projects to the value of more than $20M and for those businesses who can put half the amount in themselves. Dawson MP George Christensen says it's great to see so many organisations getting involved.

We could be closer than ever to getting an NRL game in Mackay, with both sides of politics working to lobby for a match at BB Print stadium. Sign the petition here

Townsville Blackhawks cut down the Mackay Cutters. A harrowing 56 to 12 defeat for the local lads in game one of the 2018 season. The Under 20s suffering a 6-30 loss While the Under 18s held it together with a 24-8 victory

Mackay boys ride hard at the CQ-MX Championships round two. Ryan Eden raced hard securing the title in the senior lites with 137 points. Coming in second Brodie Beard chased him down across the weekend securing 111 points
