The Bruce Highway about 3klms south of Sarnia is back open following a single vehicle crash overnight. It happened at around 6:30 closing the highway until 3am this morning.

Two men, charged with murder will go to trial in the Mackay Supreme Court in November. 31 year old Mala Owen Geissler and 26 year old Joshua Don Francis Wales are facing charges following the stabbing death of North Mackay's Tyrone Michael Baynton in October 2015. The case mentioned in court yesterday but neither entered a plea.

A North Mackay local is recovering after being punched in the face for disturbing two thieves. It's alleged he woke early Saturday morning to find two men who were aged in their 20's stealing from his car. When he confronted them on Northview Terrace it's alleged one punched him in the head and both then fled with cash stolen from the car.

October 1 marks the start of Work Safe Month. Local breakfast forum events are being held in Central and North Queensland including in Mackay on the 26th. Queensland Workplace Agriculture safety Manager Fiona O'Sullivan says each session will have local speakers AND swimmer Libby Trickett.

 

Our local firies are throwing their support behind the Children’s Hospital Foundation -- keep to raise as many funds as possible. Station Officer John Platt is urging us to chip in.

LOCAL SPORT

 

The Whitsunday Raiders are out of the finals race, losing to the Kuttabul Camelboks at the weekend. They went down to them 13 points to 35 on Saturday. It means the Camelboks will now take on the Cities in next week's grand final.

Local anglers are over the moon with the River Street boat ramp getting a 1.2 million dollar upgrade. It'll be widened and a 60 meter floating pontoon will also be installed with it set to close on October the 2nd for works.
