Federal member for Dawson George Christensen says North QLD Health will benefit directly from the budget. He says it addresses the needs of rural nurses through $550M announced under the Stronger Rural Health Strategy. The scheme aiming to deliver around 3,000 extra doctors and matched nurses in rural G-Ps over 10 years

 

A Rural View resident's dreams shattered in a case of identity theft. Hoping to buy their own home they quickly learned their credit rating had been ruined by the thief. Multiple loans and credits cards allegedly racking up thousands in debt without their knowledge. Police urge residents to stay vigilant and protect personal details

 

The Port of Hay Point trials a program for recycling from international ships. Conducted by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority to give options for ships to dispose of recyclables and garbage in Australian ports. At the moment materials are sorted on board but combined when offloaded at port. The program aiming to accept split recyclables in the hand off

Solar will be installed onto 21 facilities around the Mackay region. It's in a bid to cut down the seven million dollar electricity bill the region clocks up each year. Mayor Greg Williamson says savings for ratepayers will be massive.

 

 

Mackay Council is going green, and rate payers could be in line for a lot of savings.

LOCAL SPORT

Mackay lures home a Rugby League champion. Cooper Bambling returning to the Mackay Cutters for the remainder of the season. The 2017 Rookie of the Year returning after breaking contract with the Canberra Raiders.

The 13th World Sooty Championships go off with a bang at Eungella Dam. Winnder of the day Geoff Bushbridge beating out the competition by a mere one millimetre. While Liam Hislop took home the title of junior angler champion with a total of 713 points

WEATHER

Partly cloudy. Patchy fog in the early morning. Slight chance of a shower along the coastal fringe. Light winds becoming E 15 to 20 km/h in the middle of the day then becoming light in the late afternoon. Overnight temperatures falling to between 13 and 18 with daytime temperatures reaching 27 to 32.
