RACQ CQ Rescue airlift a couple stranded on Avoid Island. The couple were found after activating an emergency beacon yesterday morning. They had camped overnight on the mudflats after their boat was smashed into rocks at 1am. The pair suffered only some cuts and bruises and were returned to Mackay in good health. It is believed Mackay Police offered them a life back home to Clairview

A truck driver in East Mackay has lost his license for repeatedly ignoring regulations regarding fatigue. Kenneth Saron told the court he drove his B-double for longer than allowed for the fourth and fifth time. He says he was trying to keep his transport business viable. He’s been fined two grand and lost his license for three months

Emergency roadworks undertaken in Mackay shut down Sydney Street. The works were undertaken last night from 9 until around 4 this morning to fix a water leak. Sydney Street was closed from Forgan Bridge heading to the city with traffic diverted to River Street

Mackay locals are being asked for their thoughts on open spaces and parks in the region. It comes as council is creating a new draft policy to get a consistent approach to the provision of such areas. Mayor Greg Williamson wants locals to get involved in the process, with the deadline to have a say March 16.

Third time’s a charm for the Sarina Sugar Shed. They’re set to represent the region in Perth this Friday at the Australian Tourism Awards. It follows the third year in a row the facility won gold in their category at the state awards gaining them entry to the Queensland Tourism Authority hall of fame

 

 

A massive clean-up is underway in the state's central highlands after wild storms tore through the region.

 

Opposition Leader Bill Shorten, has hosted more than 100 people at a Town Hall event in South Mackay, revealing the new Labor candidate to take the fight to George Christensen at the next Federal election.

Momentum is building as Echo Park Speedway ramps up rejuvenation works. Originally opened 30 years ago it has been shut for the past eight years but is due to reopen soon. Managers are proud to announce they have replaced fencing to meet safety requirements while they'll be turning a club house into a bar

All eyes will be on North Mackay this weekend as two full greens of bowlers play in the annual "Under the Shed” Fours. The event is bound to attract out of town visitors with the Townsville teams taking out the top two spots last year
