TC Cyclone has reduced to a category 1 and is no longer expected to affect the coastline. We are expecting a windy few days with some rain. 

Mackay Mayor Greg Williamson has a message for residents new to Mackay and The Whitsundays. It's as we move out of the warning zone for Tropical Cyclone Iris. The system  downgraded to a CATEGORY 1 and expected to travel away from the Coast turning to a tropical low today. She will continue to bring heavy wind and rain to the region. Mr Williamson says we must stay prepared.

The Whitsundays receive three million dollars for Tropical Cyclone Debbie recovery efforts. Inverdon bridge and the Shute Harbour seawall will soon be restored thanks to the Government funds. It's part of the forty million dollar Betterment Fund to help local government areas in Queensland

The Cancer Council Queensland's biggest morning tea is encouraging Mackay locals to raise money. Over more than two decades the event has raised more than 30 million dollars. CEO Chris McMillan says the funds go a long way to helping people and their families living with cancer.  

The Jack Sturgeon Bursary awarded to Mackay Wicked performer. Joshua Collins given the thousand dollars towards his studies for his passion and enthusiasm for the arts. Just out of high school the young man already garnering a long list of roles and achievements

Mackay Men get amongst the AFL for 2018. The senior comp kicking off Saturday at Harrup Park. The Eastern Swans taking on Mackay Magpies while Mackay City Hawks verse Mackay Saints

Mackay Regional Council announce a new program aimed at women in the region. The Inspiring an Active Mackay Program aiming to introduce local women who are currently underactive to a four-week training program. The activities looking to focus on social connection

WEATHER

MACKAY & WHITSUNDAYS:  Cloudy. Very high chance of showers and rain areas in the south, high chance elsewhere. The chance of a thunderstorm. Possible locally heavy falls about the coastal fringe and islands. Winds S/SE 35 to 55 km/h decreasing to 25 to 35 km/h in the evening. Damaging wind gusts exceeding 90 km/h possible depending on movement and development of Tropical Cyclone Iris. Overnight temperatures falling to between 18 and 22 with daytime temperatures reaching 23 to 29.
