A Slade Point man has been accused of wasting Police time with a scam call. The 60 year old allegedly called Police around 11pm on Tuesday speaking provocatively As a result Mackay Police went to his home to speak with him giving him a notice to appear in court for using the emergency service line incorrectly. He will appear in the Mackay Magistrates Court on March 26

Mackay locals are tired of overpriced airfares. The Whitsunday Regional Council saying they believe Mackay residents are driving to the Whitsunday airport to access cheaper flights. A recent survey conducted by the Council showing that up to 15 per cent of passengers flying from The Whitsunday airport are from the Mackay region They say this number spikes around school holidays with flights being anywhere over $50 cheaper than Mackay.

Being International Women's Day it's important to acknowledge Mackay's local women. Three of the new five Ergon Energy apprentices in Mackay are shifting gender expectations. The women are outnumbering the men in this intake and two of them are Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander. Apprentice Emma Deveraux says she's happy to see more women in the program.

A tourism advocate wins the Mary Malone Perpetual Award in Sarina. The presentation was made to Colleen Burt at the Sarina Women's Week Awards dinner at the RSL on Tuesday night. She was nominated for her passion and drive to advocate for the region and for pushing people to be more active

Thousands of homes and businesses across Mackay are about to be disconnected from the old copper phone lines, as the deadline for NBN connection approaches.

A Eungella native is hanging up his runners after missing finals for the first time in 10 years. Craig Burns says he doesn't want to be an athlete who runs for the fun of it. While he missed out on qualifying for the Commonwealth Games he says it wasn't to be, he has no regrets in drawing the curtain on his 12-year career.
